Bass Music Mastering Techniques Course
Putting the final touches on a mix, so it’s ready to be played in a DJ set or sent to a record label, can be a difficult process when you’re unsure of the standards you need to achieve. In this set of tutorials, Bass Music producer and Producertech tutor Seppa goes through the entire process of mastering one of his own tracks using the mastering bundle software from Plugin Boutique, so you can join a professional as he explains each of the stages involved and what you should be aiming for at every step.
After introducing the course and plugins, as well as providing some advice for how to prepare for and what to expect from the mastering process, Seppa dives straight into the mastering, with an initial focus on limiting with the Sonnox Limiter plugin. Limiting is done in reference to free metering software, with a guide to the kind of loudness and dynamic range you would be looking to achieve when producing heavy Bass Music. Once the limiting stage is better understood, Seppa moves onto frequency analysis, beginning with a guide to Subbass Doctor 808, explaining when and how to use it on a complete mixdown. This is followed by a lengthy exploration of the many features on Smart EQ3, to help ensure the spectrum is looking and sounding right, with both manual and AI approaches incorporated alongside one another. The next two lessons move onto compression, firstly providing an overview of the highly detailed Melda Modern Compressor and then looking at how to use it to add some more stability to the dynamics, whilst generally making the mix more cohesive. The course then ends with some additional tweaks to the mastering chain plugins and final thoughts and recommendations on how to further develop your mastering skills.
The course provides nearly 3 hours of tutorials, giving you a wealth of expert advice from one of the leading artists in Bass Music, to give you a solid understanding of mastering tracks with your plugins and get you ever closer to your goal of producing professional-sounding music.

Spectral Mixing via Drag & Drop
Intelligent cross-channel processing will aid you in your quest to create a transparent arrangement of up to six channels in which each track plays exactly the role you want it to. By analyzing the spectral information of all the channels you've added to your group, the algorithms make sure that each track gets its assigned space within your mix. You just have to determine the sonic hierarchy according to your vision. It's as simple as that.
Newly Designed Profiles and a Splittable smart:filter
Adapt the impact of the A.I. powered processing of smart:EQ 3 to your liking: In EQ view, you can select the frequency ranges which should be affected, change the shape of the green weighting curve of the computed smart:filter and define the duration of the learning process. In group view, you can control the level of impact the intelligent cross-channel processing has on your tracks.
You can have it all: Enjoy the incredible abilities of the smart algorithms and stay in control.
Filter Widgets, Spectral Mixing via Drag & Drop, Multi-Channel Analyzer
Sonible have designed smart:EQ 3's intuitive, sleek interface and user-centred features to make every move count: Tweak your audio material efficiently by utilizing the filter widgets, create a sonic hierarchy by dragging and dropping your tracks in group view, and choose which tracks of your mix you want to monitor simultaneously with the comprehensive analyzer. Treating the lowest frequencies is not an easy task. And in some listening environments, it is almost impossible. If you mix while travelling or your mixing room or your system is not 110% perfect, you should see the doctor. Namely SubBass Doctor 808.
Your Subs Can Be Harmful
Of course, you want the pumping subs that shake the body. But without the right treatment, they can get out of control. Although they are inaudible in some environments, wrongly mixed low frequencies can even destroy big PA systems.
Who Needs the Doctor 808
You may want to mix while travelling, you may be producing in a home studio. Your monitors do not deliver the lowest frequencies right or your room is perhaps not 100% acoustically treated. In all these cases you should search for the Doctor.
Get Your Cure
SubBass Doctor 808 is a safety net for all mentioned above. It filters the harmful frequencies and guards the lowest basses not to exceed the healthy limit.
Extra Sub
As SubBass Doctor 808 steals something from the low end, it compensates for the loss in healthy sub frequencies ensuring you don't lose even a little bit of the sub-bass power.
Saturate
To accentuate the low frequencies and to add extra warmth SubBass Doctor 808 adds pleasant parallel saturation. This helps the sub-bass to set off and astonish the audience.
808, 5-String and Double Bass
As the name suggests SubBass Doctor 808 is mainly designed for synth bass and drums. But it is essential when mixing other instruments that reach really low - such as low-B five-string bass or double bass.
Hassle-Free Software Protection
No iLok, no dongle nor internet access is required for activation. This software uses licence files to activate your software. You can freely use the purchased software on all your computers as long as you are the user.
Realistic 3D Yet Flexible GUI
The photorealistic graphic user interface of the plugin gives you the feeling you are touching the real hardware. But it easily adapts to your needs. You can always drag the arrow in the bottom right corner to change its size - make it smaller to save valuable screen space, or enlarge it to make it easier to use.
64-bit Audio Quality at ANY Sampling Rate
The plugin provides the maximum audio quality you can get. It uses internal 64-bit audio processing and can handle any sampling rate. 192 kHz or even higher.
Smart Bypass
The intelligent way this plugin manage bypassing ensures that you don't get any click or harmful noises when automating the parameter.
