A Kontakt piano with a difference. Making just another piano instrument plug-in is pointless unless you do it differently. Old Tape Piano features a grand piano recorded into a very lo-fi cassette recorder. Make no mistake this isn’t some untuned relic of a piano. Wavesfactory took a great sounding, tuned piano, not some old piano like the one that sits in your unloved in your grandparent’s house.
88 keys, 8 velocity layers, no loops and no pitch shifting, all notes sampled. Background noise control with volume and color, tape speed and tune, with transport controls. Very simple but effective GUI for a simple but effective instrument. It has a very lo-fi vibe to it, don’t expect a clean, pristine and crystal sounding piano, it’s quite the opposite…
Effects
The library features an advanced effect script that lets you insert any effect in any of the 8 available slots, including:
- High Quality EQ.
- Various types of compressors.
- Modulation: chorus, flanger, phaser.
- Distortion / Saturation / Tape
- Algorithmic and convolutional reverb with more than 40 custom impulse responses.
- Amp simulators.
This script boosts exponentially the sonic capabilities of the library, easy to use in a simple and elegant design.
Settings
From the settings page, you can control basically any parameter you might ever need. Divided into four sections you can find:
- Round robin: the instrument was sampled with no round robins and they are really not necessary due to the high number of velocity layers. You can have up to 3x repetitions using the neighbour borrowing technique.
- Dynamic range: lets you specify the difference between the loudest and the quietest notes.
- Velocity curve: control how the library reacts to incoming midi notes.
- Envelope: control the attack and release times.

System Requirements
Important notes:
- The FULL version of Native Instruments Kontakt 5.7.3 or above is required to run this software.
- This software will not function in full within the FREE Kontakt Player engine and will only be available in DEMO mode.

Your Kontakt Instrument is now installed and ready for use!
