Nestled amid the Scottish countryside, in the small village of Whitekirk, stands the historic, yet humble, St Mary’s church. Nothing about the outside prepares you for what's inside…
Step into this (almost) 900-year-old building, and the striking curved wooden roof creates a room sound that is warm and tight. Continue down the central nave into the oldest part of the church with its centuries-old stone walls and ceiling and the acoustics transform into something huge and completely organic.
Imagine being able to simulate the experience of walking through a room like this while you hear someone play…

The Recordings
We recorded two guitars in the church: an electric and a semi-hollow, captured in a stereo setup through two guitar amps and a massive pedalboard loaded with effects.
Everything was covered – from pristine cleans that sound massive in the church, to washed-out fuzz tones, to granular textures soaked in reverb.
The result picks up where our bestseller, Panorama Guitars, left off: dreamy post-rock, shoegaze and cinematic guitar sounds, ready to use in your music.
The Mics
To capture the distinctive room sounds, we set up a series of microphones along the central nave and built two stereo mixes, which you can seamlessly crossfade between using your modwheel.
Walk & Play
Your listener position sits directly on a plan of the church in the GUI.
Drag it towards the choir seats beneath the wooden ceiling and hear the sound change in real time.
Move your position in the opposite direction and experience the bigger, more expansive reverb of the nave’s impressive stonework.
The sound you hear is just as if you're walking through the church while you play.
Effects
Panorama Whitekirk features a Plate reverb fine-tuned for this library, plus two different Atmos: Pink - a slowly modulated reverb with some granular-like processing. Blue - a shimmery, richly diffused ambience with a huge tail. And that massive pedalboard we set up on the recording day? It's in here too, captured as a series of effects combinations.
