Vintage Tonic is a collection of presets and drum patches for Sonic Charge Microtonic, recreating 10 legendary hardware drum machines.
For several years, Microtonic creator Magnus Lidström has been developing machine-learning algorithms that search for synth settings to mimic recorded samples. Vintage Tonic was the first result. Instead of samples, every sound in the collection is a real Microtonic patch: 100% synthetic, rendered in real time, and fully editable. Detune the 808 kick, reshape the CR-78 hi-hats, morph a LinnDrum snare into something new. The originals are the starting point, not the limit.
The collection spans three decades of drum machine history, from early preset rhythm boxes to the drum machines that defined electro, house, and techno:

Vintage Tonic goes beyond sounds. Many of the early machines were preset pattern players, so their original rhythm patterns have been recreated in Microtonic’s pattern engine, ready to play in sync with your DAW or to use as a springboard for your own grooves.
The set covers both analog and digital machines. The analog classics translate especially closely to Microtonic’s synthesis engine. The sample-based digital machines become something more interesting than copies: synthesized reinterpretations with their own character.
Don’t have Microtonic yet? Vintage Tonic is a free addition for Microtonic owners and a great demonstration of how far the instrument can go. Microtonic is an eight-channel drum synthesizer and pattern-based drum machine with exceptionally low CPU usage. Its morphing, randomization, and smart alteration tools turn any Vintage Tonic kit into a starting point for your own sound. Kits can also be transferred to the Teenage Engineering PO-32 Tonic, which is powered by a compatible synthesis engine.
