An intelligent MIDI sequencer that generates melodies, basslines, and textures with built-in groove

Create Irresistible Grooves That Make People Move

Tonebank is an intelligent MIDI sequencer that generates melodies, basslines, and textures with built-in groove and structural strength. Instead of relying on simplistic arpeggios or random generation, Tonebank improvises inside rhythmically patterned harmonic loops—bringing logic from ancient traditions to your DAW.

Whether you're producing techno, house, hip-hop, ambient, or experimental music, Tonebank helps you quickly create musical ideas that are lively, interesting, and ready to shape into your productions.

The Problem with Most MIDI Tools

Most arpeggiators give you predictable, lifeless patterns. Most generative tools give you chaos. Tonebank is different—it uses proven rhythmic and harmonic strategies to create sequences that have natural movement, tension, and release. The result? Musical phrases that sound intentional, not random.

How Tonebank Works

Tonebank improvises inside rhythmically patterned harmonic loops, using organizational principles from traditional African music systems:

  • 15 Harmonic Systems - Different chord sets (2-6 chords) that create distinct musical flavours
  • Clave Patterns - Rhythmic structures where your harmonic changes occur
  • Accompaniment Mode - Intelligent arpeggiator with control over density, pitch variance, rhythmic tension, and velocity
  • Melody Mode - Generates phrases mimicking spoken language patterns with natural phrasing and rests
  • Swing Patterns - Wide range of groove templates from straight to heavily swung (1:1, 2:1, 3:2, and triplet grooves)

Features

  • Accompaniment Mode
    • Control density (how many notes fill the space inside the rhythmic skeleton)
    • Control pitch variance (how quickly notes develop)
    • Adjust rhythmic tension (staying on-clave or straying from the clave's formula)
    • Control velocity ranges for dynamic expression
    • Set note range boundaries
    • Freeze phrases for repetition
  • Melody Mode
    • Generates melodic phrases mimicking spoken language patterns
    • Create "words" (note groups separated by rests) forming complete phrases
    • Control phrase length and variety
    • Choose between Solo Mode (spaced phrases), Fixed Mode (starting/ending points), or Direct Mode (manual triggering)
    • Loop phrases or let them evolve
  • The Tonebank Grid
    • Central visual representation synchronized across all instances
    • Edit harmonic loops (change chords)
    • Displace the clave pattern
    • Rotate entire chord sequences up or down within the scale
    • Black vertical lines show rhythm structure
    • White ticks indicate where beats fall according to your swing setting
  • Shared Musical Structure
    • Harmony, Rhythm, Swing, and Length sync across all Tonebank instances in your project
    • Build coherent musical conversations between multiple instruments
    • Each instrument maintains independent control of Density, Variance, Range, etc.
  • Alternative Tuning
    • Built-in alternative tunings specific to each harmonic system
    • Support for MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression)
    • MIDI pitchbend support
    • CLAP format uses note expression for pitch control
  • Professional Workflow Integration
    • Sync to DAW tempo with selectable ratios (double, half, third, or custom BPM)
    • Multiple instance synchronization for conversation between parts
    • Works as a MIDI effect/generator
