OTT, short for "Over The Top," is a preset in Ableton's Multiband Dynamics processor known for making tracks sound bold, exciting, and larger than life. Although it's highly prized by EDM producers, the original OTT poses many limitations when applied to vocals.

VO-TT emerges as an innovative leap by taking the OTT concept—expander, upward compressor, and downward compressor—and tuning it “just right” across five vocal-specific frequency bands. This design lets you achieve a perfectly balanced vocal sound almost immediately, without any hassle. Whether you're mixing tracks, performing live, or just singing for fun, VO-TT is the versatile tool that fits all scenarios.

How Does It Work?

VO-TT features five frequency bands, each dedicated to a different facet of vocal sound. In each band, the Downward Compressor tames overly loud peaks, the Upward Compressor subtly boosts softer signals, and the Expander further attenuates the quietest sounds to reduce noise. These components work together to give your vocals a professional, frequency-balanced sound that stands out in the mix.

VO-TT offers twelve carefully crafted processing styles that cover almost every usage scenario. No matter what type of vocal content you encounter, you'll quickly discover the perfect starting point for your sound adjustments.

In most cases, simply adjusting the sliders for each frequency band will give you the ideal sound. For more control, tweaking the Amount and Mix allows you to choose extreme effects at 200% or apply a subtle touch to make your vocals stand out just a little.
