10 Cool Things to have fun with
- Auto-set your input and hit the ceiling - It sounds basic, but it’s the most important step. Set your input loop or drum bus so it peaks at the ceiling level. We’ve made it easy with the Auto Set button, it analyzes your drums, sets the perfect level, and locks your ceiling. From there, dive into the huge range of presets, from subtle presence to full-on punch, and find the perfect sound to complement your track.
- Transform your drums with phase-coherent shaping - This isn’t to be used as a parallel effect. It’s designed to be placed on your dry signal, either on a loop or drum bus. It’s fully phase-coherent, meaning you can shape your drums without worrying about smearing or cancellations. Dial it in subtly or go all-in to rework your sound. It’s taken some of my demos from “sketch” to “release-ready.”
- Transient shaping that hits just right - The transient shapers are seriously fun to use. Whether you're looking for gentle control or bold, punchy hits, they let you shape the impact and groove of each sound.
- Fix weak kicks with analogue tone and precision - Got a weak kick in your loop? Sending it through the opamp distortion path for some rich body, then blending it back with the parallel dry signal. Add some transient shaping for punch, and suddenly that flat kick is pumping and grooving.
- Subtle tape warmth with crossover control - Sometimes, just using the Low path and the Tape in the Mid/High crossover is enough. Open the Low & Mid/High tab, dial in your kick, and activate only the Tape path. It won’t radically change the sound, just adds a touch of warmth and helps it sit more confidently in the mix.
- Explore new colours with distortion model presets - I often start with a preset, then customize it by exploring the different distortion types, from analog-modeled germanium (watch your CPU) to bitcrush or rectifier. It’s a great way to uncover new flavours and better understand how each model shapes your loop. Be ready to adjust output levels when switching models.
- Blend your textures with pre/post tone shaping - In the Mid/High section within the Distortion module, open the Low & Mid/High tab. Get creative with the pre/post filters, crossovers, and distortion models. Pair them with the Tape section to build textures that are smooth, crunchy, warm, aggressive—or totally unique.
- Clean highs = great highs - This one’s a sneaky but amazing feature. After low-passing the distortion path using the distortion crossover, use the Clean Highs control to bring your untouched cymbals and hats back in, perfectly in phase. It’s a great way to restore sparkle and clarity while keeping the rest of the signal gritty or saturated.
- Creative delay for drum flavour - Head to the Space section and dial in a tape delay that syncs with your beat. Whether it’s subtle slapback, dub-style repeats, or ambient tails, this adds another layer of character to your loops and drum buses.
- Add grit and texture with hidden Noise - Tucked into the EQ section is a powerful feature: Noise. It includes vinyl crackle, tape hiss, and electronic noise textures that can be placed pre or post-processing. Add it subtly to inject character, or push it louder for lo-fi, industrial, or experimental vibes.
Features
- Auto Input Ceiling Calibration - Simply play a loop — the plugin analyzes the average peak of your drum bus, and with one click, applies optimal gain staging to ensure maximum impact without clipping.
- Dual-Band Signal Processing - Split your signal into low (kick and toms) and mid/high (snare, hats, and toms) bands for targeted treatment. Each path offers dedicated distortion, dynamics, and tonal shaping tailored to its role in the kit.
- Parallel Distortion Architecture - Blend clean and distorted signals to add warmth, weight, and depth, without sacrificing transients or clarity. Multiple saturation paths allow you to shape your sound, from subtle enhancements to more intense distortion.
- Filter Sculpting - Inject life into your drums by shaping distortion with expressive high-pass and low-pass filters. These controls not only refine your tone but also add musical character and focus to otherwise flat or lifeless sounds.
- Phase-Coherent Parallel Paths - Smart phase alignment keeps dry, distorted, and filtered signals perfectly in phase, ensuring clean summing with no phase issues, which is essential for maintaining weight, clarity, and impact.
- Transient Shapers on Both Bands - Control attack and sustain independently on both low and high paths to shape smack and body with surgical precision.
- Dynamic Space Section - Send your processed drums into a versatile reverb and delay engine, featuring Convolution Reverb with multiple room options, Tape Delay, Algorithmic Reverb, and Digital Delay. Perfect for creating a tight, mix-reactive ambience that enhances the groove without adding muddiness.
- Corrective EQ & Tone Shaping - A 3-band output EQ provides subtle corrective EQ for cleaning up your tone and fine-tuning the mids. The Tilt EQ in the Mid/High section lets you adjust brightness or warmth, offering precise control before hitting the master clipper.
- Signal path Clipper with RMS Boost - Boost perceived loudness across the entire signal path while keeping peak levels in check. The clipper maximizes impact without introducing harshness or overtly audible clipping, ensuring a powerful sound throughout the mix.
- Preset Browser with Genre Tags - Discover a growing collection of 40 expertly crafted presets, categorized by drum type and creative intent, from subtle enhancements to full-on transformations. Whether you're refining kicks, snares, toms, or claps, explore presets across three styles: Natural (bigger sound, minimal tonal change), Processed (distorted and punchy), and Creative (bold, transformative effects).
