VPA76 is a tube mic preamp model based on the 1950s German microphone preamp that happens to be referred to as the Rolls-Royce of tube mic preamps for a reason.

From the Abbey Road to the EMI studio facilities, generations of engineers have been after its rich and musical tube gain. VPA76 is still astoundingly versatile and able to do its vintage magic to virtually any kind of input signal – drums, vocals, guitars, you name it and VPA76 will deliver.
Our unit comes with faithfully recreated classic controls, including a 3 kHz roll-off switch, a four-step low cut filter, an adjustable hi-pass filter, a Warmth knob for adding extra tube sauce, and of course output volume control.
History
The inspiration behind VPA76 was designed by the German Institute of Broadcast Technology (IRT) and TAB started manufacturing it in the late 1950s. The unit was part of a series of similar devices but stood out among its contemporaries for its ability to provide extra gain and because of its 12-step gain selector (going from +3dB to +76). Each preamp carried its serial number on the front panel, making it an even more treasured and precious addition to any top-tier studio facility.
However, what was more special than its military-style look was its military-grade circuitry design with its pentode tube and highest quality balancing transformers all contributing to the unit’s beautiful and still heavily desired, vintage hi-fi gain. We did our best to recreate this unit and if you still doubt its potential, give some of the greatest recordings by The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Pink Floyd a spin, and maybe their eternal production qualities will convince you to add it to your collection.
