All the creative power of the Reason Rack, wherever you make music.
Reason Rack is a VST3, AU, and AAX plugin that brings Reason's legendary modular Rack directly into any compatible DAW — Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Logic, FL Studio, and beyond. Drop it into a track, patch it up, and you're inside one of the most creatively powerful sound design environments in music production, without changing a thing about how you work.
At the heart of Reason Rack is a virtual hardware rack — instruments, effects, and utilities stacked and connected the way real studio hardware once was, but without the cables, the cost, or the limitations. Flip the Rack and you'll see the patch bay: a full CV and audio routing environment where signals flow exactly where you send them. LFOs modulate filters. Step sequencers drive pitch. Feedback loops evolve sounds in real time. This is modular routing that goes places a standard plugin chain simply can't.
The device library covers every creative territory. Synthesizers from the warmly analog (like Subtractor and Thor) to the richly complex (Europa and Malström). Samplers built for live capture and manipulation. Drum machines, noise generators, granular processors, and a complete suite of effects — delay, distortion, dynamics, EQ, reverb, and modulation — all designed to work together inside the same environment. The new RV-9 Reverb Station adds nine reverb algorithms, from precise rooms and halls to granular textures, spectral freeze, and Echoverb. Every device, hand-crafted in Sweden since 1994.
Combinator lets you take any combination of Rack devices and turn it into a single, self-contained instrument or effects unit — with macro controls, deep modulation routing, and a fully customizable interface. Build a layered synth, a performance rig, or a multi-stage effects chain, then save it, recall it, and automate it like any other plugin. Complex setups become playable.
Reason Rack supports full DAW automation, preset recall, and project-level compatibility across sessions. It runs stably in large, demanding projects. And because Reason Rack uses the same devices, presets, and workflow as the Reason DAW, there's no learning curve — everything you know in one context works in the other.
With 30,000+ patches, loops, and samples — fully tagged and searchable in one Browser — the Rack arrives with a complete creative library on day one. Go deep when you want to. Stay simple when you don't. The creative depth is always there; it just never gets in the way.
Features
Modular sound design in any DAW
- The heart of Reason, available as a VST3, AU, or AAX plugin. Instruments, effects, and utilities are stacked in a virtual hardware rack that runs inside any compatible DAW — Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Logic, FL Studio, and beyond. Drop it into a track and you're inside one of the most creative sound design environments in music production, without changing a thing about how you already work.
“Flip the Rack” and use virtual patch cables
- Flip the Rack and you're looking at the patch bay. Every device has physical inputs and outputs on the back, connected by virtual cables you draw yourself. Audio can flow in any direction. Signals can split, merge, and feedback. Nothing is locked to a fixed signal path. This is where Reason Rack does things that a standard plugin chain simply can't.
CV routing & modulation
- Reason Rack exposes CV inputs and outputs across its devices — meaning LFOs, envelopes, step sequencers, and modulation sources can drive parameters on any other device in the Rack. Modulate a filter with a step sequencer. Trigger an envelope from a CV signal. Route feedback between effects. The result is evolving, expressive sounds that are difficult or impossible to build with a conventional plugin chain.
Build your own instruments with the “Combinator”
- Combinator lets you combine multiple Rack devices into a single, self-contained instrument or effects unit — with custom macro controls, deep modulation routing, and a scalable interface. Build a layered synth, a performance rig, or a multi-stage effects chain, then save it, recall it, and automate it like any other plugin. Complex setups become reusable and playable.
68 devices
- Synthesizers, samplers, drum machines, effects, MIDI Players, and utilities — 68 devices hand-crafted by Reason Studios in Sweden since 1994. From Subtractor and Thor to Europa, Kong, Pulveriser, the RV-9 Reverb Station, and beyond, the Rack covers every creative territory across synthesis, sampling, effects processing, and MIDI manipulation.
Works in all major DAWs
- VST3, AU, and AAX plugin support for Mac and Windows. Use the Rack in Ableton Live, Pro Tools, Logic, FL Studio, or any compatible host. Drag to reorder devices and signal flow updates automatically. The floating Rack window stays on top and opens only when needed, making the plugin feel native to any host.
Browse 30,000+ sounds fast
- Every patch, sample, and loop is tagged and searchable in one Browser. Filter by name, type, category, or tag across a library of 30,000+ sounds — and find exactly what you need without breaking creative momentum.
