Now, they’re reborn for your modern workflow with breathtaking realism and authenticity—all for one low price.
What is PCM?
PCM stands for Pulse Code Modulation, a digital method of storing and playing back audio samples. Before virtual instruments became standard, Roland PCM-based keyboards and sound modules were the go-to solution for professionals seeking a wide range of high-quality sounds in one place. Instruments like the JV-1080, XP-80, and XV-5080 could be expanded with user-installable boards loaded with specialized sampled waveforms tailored to different styles and genres.
Roland introduced this concept in 1992 with the JV-80, and over time released more than 30 expansion boards across multiple generations of supported instruments. For the next decade and a half, SR-JV80 and SRX boards became a cornerstone for top producers, composers, and performers—and their sounds remain iconic to this day.
The Collection

JV-1080
Packing a seemingly impossible number of sounds into a single unit, the JV-1080 helped define the sound of the ’90s, fueling R&B, pop, hip hop, and film scores. Designed to deliver a wide sonic palette—from lush synth textures to emulations of acoustic instruments—it offered producers an unprecedented level of versatility. Many of its acoustic-style presets, originally intended to replicate real-world instruments, became iconic in their own right, shaping the sound of an era. Some even say it’s the most recorded sound module in history—a testament to its lasting influence. The JV-1080’s legacy lives on in a modern software version that faithfully recreates the original’s look, feel, and legendary presets—now enhanced with expanded effects, additional waveforms, and increased polyphony.

XV-5080
The Roland XV-5080 stepped onto the scene in 2000, leaving a mighty footprint. Described for years as “Roland’s ultimate sound module,” the XV-5080 boasted immense PCM-based multitimbral synthesis power, sophisticated modulation, and an array of pro-quality DSP effects. The XV-5080 Software Synthesizer includes over 900 presets, making it ideal for fast composition and genre-spanning creativity—from cinematic scores to retro game soundtracks. Modern enhancements elevate the experience even further, bringing this powerhouse into the present day.

SRX Expansions
The SRX Software Synthesizer plug-ins bring the beloved sounds of Roland’s legacy SRX and SR-JV80 wave expansion boards to your modern music production environment. Our advanced sound engine reproduces every nuance and detail, fusing the original sample ROMs with detailed behavior modeling that replicates the hardware’s digital components and circuitry.
