The Uakara is an instrument with 4 double strings, producing a unique sound from the two lowest pairs of strings, which are tuned an octave apart. This instrument is an original design handmade by luthier Israel Badilla (Getsemaní Guitarras), and as such, only a few pieces have been made. The wakara is typically tuned like the first four strings of a guitar, but Daniel Mora, the performer in this recording, tunes the fourth string to C instead of D, allowing for variations in fingering and creating different sound possibilities.
