All 88 keys have been recorded in loop-free stereo, faithfully preserving the natural decay of every note. Independent damper and sympathetic string resonances reproduce the instrument’s full harmonic richness, while subtle pedal, keybed, and release noises add the final layer of authenticity for an incredibly realistic playing experience.

With up to 12 velocity layers per key, SGX-2 captures the full expressive range of your playing — from delicate pianissimo to thunderous fortissimo — so that every performance feels alive, dynamic, and deeply musical.

To appreciate the incredible depth and quality of the sounds in each of the 5 piano engines of KORG Collection SGX-2, start by playing single low notes to hear how the sound naturally decays without any looping. Next, try playing chords while holding down the damper pedal. The chord resonance and stereo spread remain natural and beautifully balanced, with each note decaying as it should - just as it does on a real piano. 

The SGX-2 uses loop-free stereo samples for every key, allowing you to enjoy the piano’s inherently natural sound. With up to 12 velocity layers, every subtle shift in your touch brings the sound to life – enabling nuanced, expressive performances with complete control over tone and dynamics.

String Resonance, Damper Resonance, and Una Corda

Real pianos sing with sympathetic resonance — when one string vibrates, others subtly respond. With the damper pedal raised, only held notes and the higher octaves resonate together. Press the pedal and every note joins in, producing a rich, enveloping resonance. The SGX-2 captures this complex acoustic behavior in every detail, faithfully recreating the natural resonances that occur both with and without the pedal. The result is a piano tone that breathes, shimmers, and feels unmistakably alive.

Grand pianos have an additional "soft" pedal, technically known as una corda — Italian for “one string.” Normally, each hammer strikes two or three strings at once. When you press the una corda pedal, the keyboard and hammer mechanism shift slightly to the right, causing the hammer to hit one fewer string and producing a softer, more delicate tone. The Italian Grand model includes true una corda support, faithfully capturing these subtle shifts in volume and timbre, so you can perform with the full expressive range and authentic pedal response of a real piano.
