Featuring: Girls Make Beats
Founded in 2012 by producer Tiffany Miranda, Girls Make Beats is a nonprofit organization that empowers girls from ages 5 to 17 to become audio engineers, DJs, and producers themselves. Their mission is to close the gender gap, expand the presence of female producers, and ultimately change the image of what the industry looks like.
They provide hands-on music technology education both online and within their physical chapters across the USA. Their work also involves organizing practical workshops with previous international camps being organized in Kenya and Peru. Their courses range from DJing and Music Production to in-depth guides on working with specific DAWs.
Girls Make Beats offers scholarships that help students from low-income households access specialist music education. They platform their community members by connecting them with industry partnered brands and companies such as Barbie, ASCAP, Netflix, and The NAMM Show for performance and placement opportunities.
Beyond technical training, they also provide mentorship and leadership development to help members build the knowledge and confidence to pursue successful long-term careers within the industry.
Girls Make Beats has helped over 1,300 girls since its inception, 75% of whom come from historically underrepresented groups including young women from Black and Latinx communities as well as those from low-income households.
