What’s New in V5.5?

Version 5.5 introduces SpaceBlender, Soundtoys’ new experimental reverb, now fully integrated into Effect Rack. Users can create immersive environments, rich ambiences, and otherworldly spatial effects by layering unique reverb textures with their favorite Soundtoys plug-ins. To get started, Soundtoys has added 67 new Effect Rack presets crafted by their in-house sound design team.

V5.5 also brings resizable user interfaces to all individual plug-ins. Now that’s BIG news (pun intended).

Effect Rack

Soundtoys Effect Rack is the centerpiece of Soundtoys 5. It turns a tried-and-true collection of powerful individual plug-ins into a virtually unlimited creative multi-effects system.

Effect Rack makes it simple for users to build their own custom effect chains and define their signature sound. And when the perfect combination of effects is created, the Rack’s global controls let users treat the whole rack as a single plug-in.

Users can lock rhythmic effects to a single tempo, or let them run free. They can fine tune input and output levels, and use the global mix control to blend effects in with the dry signal. Then they can experiment with the powerful global Recycle control. By mixing the output of the rack back into the input, it’s possible to build modulated reverbs, over-the-top delays, and other unique ambience effects that would require complicated routing in most DAWs.

Effect Rack integrates multiple Soundtoys effects into a single plug-in, improving workflow by allowing users to easily configure an entire custom effect processing chain without needing to jump between windows. No need to juggle multiple plug-in windows to adjust parameters, add new effects, or change routing. Effect Rack keeps everything right at the user’s fingertips.

Soundtoys also provides a range of carefully-crafted presets to serve as jumping-off points. Or users can design, save, and recall combinations of their favorite Soundtoys effects—all in one self-contained plug-in.

Outer Limits is a free collection of 67 presets designed to turn any audio into strange and frightening sounds, spacey sci-fi soundscapes, and mutated audio oddities.

No dongle needed

No hardware dongle is required—users can work wherever, and however they want.

With computer-based authorization, they can free up precious USB ports for audio interfaces and MIDI controllers. Studio pros can still use Soundtoys 5 with their iLok USB keys to manage plug-in licenses. All Soundtoys 5 plug-ins come with two activations—one for the studio, and one for a home machine or laptop.

Soundtoys prides itself on building simple, elegant effects that provide instant inspiration. But when users are ready to go deeper, they can open the hood and get hands-on.

Slide open an effect’s Tweak panel to access special circuit-level controls or design custom modulation patterns.

Many Soundtoys effects offer special Tweak panels with deeper editing features—like a choice of saturation styles, fine groove control, or different delay algorithms. Modulation effects include powerful shape and rhythm editors for complex motion. In Soundtoys 5, the Tweak panels have been redesigned to make advanced controls easier to find and use—resulting in a customizable set of sonic tools for any project.

Effects That Move

An LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator) is at the heart of every modulation effect—it’s what gives tremolos, phasers, panners, and sweeping filters their motion.

The included library of LFO shapes goes beyond standard modulation, with curves inspired by vintage effects, amps, and instruments, plus more abstract shapes. Users can also draw and sculpt their own custom LFO shapes with the Shape Editor, from knife-edged waves to gentle curves.

The Rhythm Editor functions like a modulation sequencer. Users can choose bar lengths, step sizes (e.g. sixteenths, eighths), turn steps on or off, adjust levels and lengths, and even tweak time signatures to create syncopated or odd grooves. Custom shapes and patterns can be swapped between plug-ins and locked to the master tempo of the Effect Rack or host DAW for simple sync.
